The American Club in Hong Kong is an exclusive members club for the Hong Kong and global elite.

It is the only member-owned private club on the island with both a Town and Country Club, offering extensive dining, sports and leisure facilities and unparalleled networking opportunities.

With one of the most international memberships anywhere in the world, the American Club can legitimately claim to be Hong Kong’s premier business and social private club.

We worked with the American Club to create a fresh, new design concept for its Town Club location which sits above the Hong Kong stock exchange on the 48th and 49th floors in the centre of the city. The 3,000 sq m club boasts three signature restaurants, two bars, a lounge, private dining rooms, a gymnasium and two outdoor terraces, making for a substantial and all-encompassing graphic and environmental project.
The project’s central objective was to attract a younger, more international audience, without alienating its established membership. Our teams combined graphical and physical elements to create a contemporary, exclusive and premium environment that both respected the expectations of existing members and generated interest among a younger demographic. We achieved this balance by treating each of the individual rooms as a unique space with its own aesthetic.

A practical consideration, given the height of the club’s location was the weight of any furnishings chosen. We worked innovatively to overcome this; cutting a 50 sq m bar in half in order to fit it into the service elevator then reassembling it in situ is just one example.
